An unusually cold February brought the ‘Beast from the East’ and turned Penzance and West Cornwall into a winter wonderland for two days. Unlike previous snowfalls this snow fell thick and fast and it was lovely dry snow, not the normal wet slushy stuff we experience in Cornwall. Every school in Cornwall was shut and many places of work were shut too, as roads were impassable and people were advised not to travel.
Not the normal scenes you expect to find in Penzance.
Stuart and I made the most of the snow, wrapped up warm and took several walks a day. Everyone you saw had huge smiles on their faces, I actually think the ‘big’ kids enjoyed it more than the small ones!!
And on the Prom!! Snow and waves, an unsual combination.
On towards Newlyn and the statue in memory of fishermen lost at sea was standing proud in the snow.
On our way back from Newlyn we looked in at the Cornish Pirates home ground, the Mennaye, not seen it looking like this before and not likely to again for many years, we hope.
