Weekend of sunshine, pilot gigs and vintage cars.

Weekend of sunshine, pilot gigs and vintage cars.

Saturday this weekend saw the annual Mounts Bay Pilot Gig Regatta. My sister was over with several other rowers from Scilly and they bought the Emma Louise gig from St Marys with them, so we took the opportunity to go to Marazion and support them all.  Scilly Ladies A crew.           Scilly Ladies B Crew waiting to swap for their race.    Panoramic view Penzance to Marazion. All the Scilly crews d ...[Read More]

Ross Bridge

Ross Bridge

The same day that all the excitment of HMS Queen Elizabeth visiting Mounts Bay the Ross Bridge was opened to let the St Piran the sea fisheries boat out.   The Ross Bridge open.       St Piran being towed into the wet dock. We have lived in Penzance for over 12 years and until this day I had never actually seen the Ross Bridge open! That is not to say it isn’t open very often, I have just ne ...[Read More]

HMS Queen Elizabeth visits Mounts Bay.

HMS Queen Elizabeth visits Mounts Bay.

Firstly apologies for the photos, taken on my phone and really don’t do HMS QE justice. Probably one of the most photographed sights in Mounts Bay this year, after the snow! HMS Queen Elizabeth the new aircraft carrier arrived in Mounts Bay last week, and stayed for a few days as part of her on going sea trials. The helicopters from Culdrose were practicing landings and take offs from ...[Read More]

Sunday Cycle

Sunday Cycle

A couple of weekends ago it was overcast in Mounts Bay and not the best beach weather so we packed up a picnic and hit the road with the pushbikes. From Keigwin we headed out of town through Heamoor on through Madron onto the Penwith Moors. Its a steady climb up to the moors and it was definitely a case of the hare and the tortoise or in my case the snail!! Slow and steady and I made it to the top ...[Read More]

A spring visit to Godolphin.

Much earlier in the season and before the big snow hit, we managed a trip over to Godolphin house and gardens with the grandkids. We’ve never been there before, its so true that you don’t do the things right on your doorstep, what beautiful places we are missing. The snowdrops were in full flower when we went and were looking beautiful, we were blessed with blue skies, it was still a l ...[Read More]

One Night in Bangkok.

One Night in Bangkok.

Last winter we managed to do what we had been threatening to do for a few years, that is take off for six weeks holiday. We had Christmas at home with the grandkids, then between Christmas and New Year we took the train  to Paddington and onto Heathrow for our flight to Bangkok. We left Becky in charge of bookings and emails and Ruth and her ...[Read More]

The Beast from the East bought snow to Penzance

The Beast from the East bought snow to Penzance

An unusually cold February brought the ‘Beast from the East’ and turned Penzance and West Cornwall into a winter wonderland for two days. Unlike previous snowfalls this snow fell thick and fast and it was lovely dry snow, not the normal wet slushy stuff we experience in Cornwall. Every school in Cornwall was shut and many places of work were shut too, as roads were impassable and peopl ...[Read More]

A well earned break,Colorado.

A well earned break,Colorado.

In February we shut up shop for two weeks to visit friends in Aspen, Colorado. This was the first time we have holidayed in the States and weren’t sure how we would find it. We had a great time and everyone was so friendly and helpful. Denise is a ski instructor during the winter months and she was able to kit me out totally and Stu with everything bar boots. On the days that Denise was able ...[Read More]

Busy Winter

Busy Winter

This winter we went to town on our kitchen and hall/office area. Ceilings and walls came down, floors came up and a very dusty three months began. A picture of the old kitchen which we inherited and had served the Keigwin well over the years, to the newly revamped one complete with breakfast bar which I find great for my lunch.                                                        We began or at ...[Read More]

Over the winter we have been busy, but its not all work and no play.

Over the winter we have been busy, but its not all work and no play.

As well as doing all the winter refurbishment of rooms and having a new floor and radiators in our lounge we have managed a few short breaks away to recharge the batteries.  Over looking Lake Venuela. A fortnight in Spain in November and we were lucky enough to have a fair bit of sunshine, torrential rain, thunder storms, snow and even a tornado! Back home to start the painting and get ready for a ...[Read More]
